Brad Astill referred to ICAC
Brad Astill, the Genaeral Manager of Westmead Hospital has been disciplined and referred to the
corruption watchdog over a breach of government spending rules in a contract with a private
radiology firm according to an article by Julie Robotham in the Sydney Morning Herald (click here).
Brad Astill has been ''formally reprimanded and counselled about errors in judgment
and performance'' over a deal with SP Film Services, for which his teenaged son
once worked, to analyse dental X-rays, a spokeswoman for the hospital has
confirmed.
According to Julie Robotham the matter has been the subject of a report by
PricewaterhouseCoopers, which is understood to have been critical of Mr Astill's role,
and an external legal review.
A spokeswoman for the Health Minister, Jillian Skinner, said she was aware of the
ICAC referral. Asked whether she would order additional disciplinary action
against Mr Astill, the spokeswoman said, ''The minister does not involve herself
in clinical or operational decisions as they are the responsibility of chief
executives and the director-general.''
Brad Astill was intimately involved with disciplinary procedings against Dr Cole. In Dr Cole's
opinion the prodedings were reprisals for blowing the whistle on Professor Tarnow Mordi's competence
and Westmead Hospital's cover up.
